Eawag is a governmental institute for aquatic research. It is part of the ETH domain, which comprises the two Federal Institutes of Technology ETH Zurich and EPFL and four research institutes. Eawag’s research concentrates on methods of integrated water management, the effect of global changes on aquatic ecosystems and the development of new methods for wastewater treatment and nutrient recovery. Two thirds of Eawag’s budget is funded by the government. About 15 Mio Swiss francs come from third party resources, mostly national and international research funds. Eawag has 25 professors, and around 150 scientific staff, 150 doctoral students and 130 technical and administrative staff. Eawag has 12 research departments, with natural and social scientists and engineers.
